Soffit and Fascia
A soffit is the material connecting an exterior wall to the edge of the roof under the eaves.
Soffits can be made from aluminum, wood or another type of material. A properly installed soffit provides essential ventilation and air circulation to reduce excess moisture that can cause rotting and decay of the roof’s structure. It promotes directional air movement through the eaves and rafters of your home, helping it to stay in great shape both inside and out.
Fascia board is important as they carry the weight of the rain gutters and water attached to them. The fascia board is the visual board attached to the end of the roof rafters.
If your gutters are leaking or constantly overflowing it is a good bet that these fascia boards have been exposed to water and potential rot. Often we are not able to determine the extent of damage to these boards until the existing gutters have been removed.
On occasion, all the boards will need replacement, but it is more common that only sections, especially at corners, need replacement, helping to keep costs low.
